NOTES PROVIDED IN THE ERLENKOTTER FAMILY RECORDS:

"In 1780 Nathan WESCOAT served as a private in Capt. Nehemiah HOUGHTON's company, Col. NICHOLS's regiment of New Hampshire militia, which joined the Continental Army at West Point. He signed a petition for the appointment of a justice of the peace at Richmond, NH on 1 October 1785. Nathan appears in the 1790 census at Lanesborough, Berkshire County, MA with a family consisting of one male age 16 years or over, two males under 16 years of age, and two females. His brother Dickens WESTCOT is listed just before him in the census. He and his brother-in-law Gideon GRINNELL jointly owned land at Bullock Land Grant (now in the town of Savoy) from 1793 to 1796."

"The Western Repository and Genesee Advertiser of Wednesday, March 30, 1813, reports the death of Nathan WESCOTT, age 55 years, at Farmington, NY. On 18 May 1813 Isabelle WESCOTT, widow of Nathan WESCOTT, and his friend Jared COMSTOCK were appointed as the administrators of Nathan's estate [Ontario County Letters of Administration, Book 6, pp. 290-291]. On the 18th of the 3rd month in 1815 she received as part of her widow's share of his estate 10 acres and 139 rods of land in lot 89 in Farmington [Ontario County Letters of Administration, Book 10, p. 17]."

"Since the published accounts of the children of Nathan and Isabel (GRINNELL) WESCOAT are incomplete, [the Erlenkotter Family Records] have appended an account of the ten who survived Nathan, constructed from probate, land, census, military, and Bible records. Particularly valuable is the DAR-transcribed Bible record for daughter Johannah and her husband George AUSTIN, which names Nathan WESTCOTT and Isabel GRINALS [sic] as Johannah's parents. Johannah is established as a daughter of Nathan by a deed dated 12 January 1818 for an undivided tenth part of land from his estate [Ontario County Deed Records, Book 59, pp. 284-285]."
