NOTES PROVIDED IN THE ERLENKOTTER FAMILY RECORDS:

- 1810 census at Farmington, Ontario County, NY.
- 1820 census at Fallowfield, Crawford County, PA.
- 1830 census at Lockport, Niagara County, NY.
- 1840 census at Greenwood, Crawford County, PA, head of household.
- 1850 census, he's not been located.
- 1860 Census at Greenwood, Crawford County, PA [p. 350, family #424].

"The birth year of 'About 1785' for Amaziah is derived from a declaration for War of 1812 bounty land dated 4 December 1850 in which he stated that he was then 65 years old. At the time he was a resident of Greenwood, Crawford County, PA; in 1813, when he was drafted into the New York militia, he had been at Farmington, NY. The 1860 census and his gravestone give ages that suggest he might have been born three or four years later, but his status as a head of household in 1810 makes this unlikely." This source also provides much more extensive notes to establish Amaziah's parentage.

"On 18 May 1813 he was appointed as the administrator of the estate of his late brother Obadiah WESCOAT, who had died intestate [Ontario County Letters of Administration, Book 6, p. 289]. Amaziah served during the War of 1812 in Howell's regiment of New York militia. On 24 February 1815 he was appointed as the guardian for Clarissa and Lewis WESCOAT of Palmyra, Ontario County, NY [Ontario County Letters of Administration, Book 8, p. 20]."

"On the 16th day of the third month in 1815, Amaziah WESCOAT of Ontario County, NY purchased twenty acres of land for $100 from Darius COMSTOCK of Palmyra in the same county, the land being in lot 89 in township 11 of the third range in this county and bounded on the east by land owned by the heirs of Nathan WESCOAT [Ontario County Deed Records, Book 42, p. 35]. On 1 November 1819 Amaziah, then of Fallowfield, Crawford County, PA, sold eight acres of this land to Welcome HERENDEEN of Farmington, NY for $100; on 13 February 1830 he was of Lockport, Niagara County, NY when he appeared to acknowledge the deed [Ontario County Deed Records, Book 53, pp. 15-16]. On 1 November 1819 he also sold to Elisha GARDNER of Farmington, Ontario County, NY for $400 the remaining twelve acres purchased from Darius COMSTOCK along with two undivided tenth parts of about ninety acres of land in lots 89 and 104 in Farmington [Ontario County Deed Records, Book 59, pp. 277-278]. (The two tenth shares were from his father Nathan WESCOAT's estate, presumably one being his own and the other held as the administrator for his brother Obadiah's estate.)"

"On 16 December 1825 Amaziah WESCOTT of Lockport, Niagara County, NY and his wife Polly sold to Elisha W. GARDNER of Farmington, Ontario County, NY for $110 one undivided tenth part of about ninety acres of land in lots 89 and 104 in Farmington [Ontario County Deed Records, Book 59, pp. 283-284]. This tenth share had been deeded to Amaziah by Humphrey DENNINS and his wife Clarissa, who had received it as heirs to the estate of Nathan WESCOTT, deceased."

"In a declaration for obtaining bounty land dated 4 December 1850, Amasiah WESCOAT, a resident of Greenwood, Crawford County, PA, aged 65 years, stated that he was drafted at Farmington, Ontario County, NY and had served in the New York militia as a private in a company commanded by Capt. Barzilla HARVEY. He was enrolled on 1 January 1813 and served for about 35 days. His service was affirmed by John GRINNEL, who had served in the same company."
