(1) Erlenkotter Family Records: "The intention of marriage for Nathaniel GRINNELL and Ruth CLARK is recorded at Nantucket, Massachusetts [11 September 1756]. Although a record of their marriage has not been found, there is no question that the marriage took place. As noted in the birth records for Nantucket, she is called 'Ruth GRINNELL' in family records. (The incorrect entry noted in the published birth records for Nantucket is the identification for Ruth's parents.) The Grinnell Family Association of America and others report a marriage date of 1 October 1756, but an original record has not been found."

"Births of their three daughters are recorded at Tiverton, Rhode Island. The last born was Isabel on 21 August 1765, and this is the latest record found for Ruth. Nathaniel and Ruth are said to have had two sons born after this date, but birth records for them have not been found."
