- 09 Mar 1905, Thu; Page 9: "George EMIG went to Hamilton, Ohio, yesterday at the request of Mrs. Louis HOWDER, of Front street, in search of her husband, who has been missing since last Thursday. HOWDER was located at a car shop, where he had secured employment. He told EMIG that he would not return home, but promised to write a leter to his family. HOWDER had just recovered from an attack of the grip. His wife and six children are anxious that he return home. He was employed by a Cincinnati grocery up to the time of his disappearance."

- 26 Apr 1906, Thu; Page 12: "HOWDER DISAPPEARED And His Wife Fears That Foul Play Has Befallen Him. Mrs. Louis H. HOWDER and seven little children, residing at 208 Front street. Bellevue. Ky., are grieving over the absence of a husband and father, who has been mysteriously missing since April 5. Mr. HOWDER is a car inspector on tbe Interurban Line at Deer Park. He had been doing night work, and just three weeks ago today he left home for his place of employment. The railroad people say he reported for work that evening and after drawing his salary left, ostensibly for home. That was the last seen of him. Mrs. HOWDER stated yesterday that she fears some evil has befallen her husband. He had just recovered from a case of grip, which left him in a weak condition. He is 45 years of age, five feet six inches in height and has a dark mustache. He had on a dark suit of work clothes. The wife and family are left in destitute circumstances."

- Jane's sister, Mary HAYES BURKE, moved to Washington, DC to work for Sen. Joseph Benson FORAKER (R-Ohio) when he was elected to office. Sen. FORAKER was able to arrange a job at the Government Printing Office for Lewis HOWDER so the moved the family to Washington.
