"Henry Newton NELSON, 76, prominent attorney of Carthage, died at noon Sunday at his home in that city after a brief illness. Mr. NELSON was born September 8, 1855 in Georgia. He came to Texas with his parents when a child, the family settling in Panola County. Mr. NELSON moved to Hallsville where he has spent his boyhood. He later returned to Panola county where he engaged in the practice of law and has made his home for the past 50 years. He has been in public life for a number of years, having served Panola county as county attorney for several years and in other public offices. He was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. NELSON is survived by his wife and sons, Russell of Carthage, and Nigel of Dallas, one sister, Mrs. J. W. DRAUGHON of Ft. Worth and one brother, S. C. NELSON, of Hallsville. The funeral was held at 2:30 Monday afternoon from the family residence in Carthage. Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. MILLS. Burial was made in city cemetery. The Panola County Bar acted as pallbearers. Many friends from Marshall attended the funeral."
