Notes

Updated February 24, 2022. Compiled by Howder (www.howderfamily.com) from the following source(s):

(1) LDS Family Search call number 0901413, "Marriage records, 1831-1917; Index 1831-1919, Ohio. Probate Court (Allen County)". Microfilm of original records in the Allen County Courthouse, Lima, Ohio.

(2) 1880 United States Census for Ohio, Allen Co., Second Ward Lima: Supervisor's District 1; Enumeration District 227; page 29; June 10-11, 1880.

Levi MYERS is head of household, married to Mary [NUGENT] MYERS. He is 34 years old and was born in Pennsylvania, with his father born in Germany and his mother born in Pennsylvania. He is a fireman. Children in the household are John, Mary, Sophia and Sarah.

(3) Sylvester family interview.

- Alternate spellings of the surname included MYERS and MYER.
- Referenced a handwritten note on a page from a desktop calendar dated Monday, April 16, 1956: It says he drove first street car in Memphis, Tennessee; Deputy Constable (or sheriff) in Lima, OH; His children were John, Emmett, Sophia, Mercedes (Sadie); Mrs. Mary A. SYLVESTER, and Robert E. MYERS of Tennessee.

(4) There are other records that imply a connection to Levi MEYERS that require further research. So far I've not been able to tie them to her definitively although they seem to make sense:

- The 1860 Census for Ottowa Twp., Allen Co., Ohio includes an entry for Levie MEYERS age 14, born in Ohio. He is the child of Jacob MEYERS (born in Baden; a brick maker) and M.A. MEYERS (born in Pennsylvania)
- The 1870 Census for Ottowa Twp., Allen Co., Ohio includes an entry for the Levi and Mary MIRES family. Levi is 24 years old, born in Ohio and works in a brick yard. They have a 3-month old child, John. There is also Lorena MIRES, age 11, of unknown relation.
- A German-language newspaper in Lima, Ohio -- Der Lima Courier --; 14 March 1878, page 4 announces the candidacy of Levi MEYERS of Lima and Ottawa Township for the office of Marshall and Constable.
- There may have been another man named Levi MEYERS in Allen Co., Ohio during this same approximate timeframe. I've not been able to detangle the records yet.
