"JOHN CARR. Born in Newport, R. I. about 1664; Died in Newport, R. I. 1714; Married Waite EASTON. She was the daughter of Peter and Ann (COGGESHALL) EASTON and was born in Newport on Nov. 5, 1668. She died in that same city on Aug. 1725."

"It was through this John that the ferry business established by his father, Caleb, was passed along to become almost traditional with the CARR family of Newport and Jamestown. If we may be allowed to assume, and I think that we may, that Caleb started a regular ferry service between Newport and Jamestown around 1675 it appears that the ferry was owned by members of the family for almost two hundred years for in 1873 George C. CARR helped to organize the Jamestown and Newport Ferry Co. which took over ownership of the enterprise."

"Waite EASTON was a granddaughter of the beloved Colonial Governor, Nicholas EASTON. Both she and John are buried in the family lot in Newport. John evidently willed all of his property to his son Samuel with instructions as to its disposal... John and Waite had eight children. The eldest and youngest lived but short lives. The first John dying on June 5, 1694 and Joshua on Mrs. 25, 1703. All six of the maturing children married but three are not known to have had children... Ann mar. on Jan. 18, 1709. Her husband was Caleb BARKER of Scituate. Francis was married to Hannah WEEDEN on Feb. 24, 1720. Patinece was twice married. Her first husband was Joseph PECKHAM. Her second was Edward EDES (or ESTES) whom she married on Aug. 27, 1730. Following are the eight children of John and Waite: ... John... Ann... Samuel... Caleb... John... Francis... Patience... Joshua..."
