"... In New York State he [George HOUFSTATER] met Elizabeth BARRE, also a native of Pennsylvania, to whom he was wedded, and after his marriage he began farming. Seven children were born to them on the homestead, namely: Almira, Mary, David, Matilda and Fidelia (twins), Jacob and Catherine; Lucy Ann, the eighth child, was born in Huron county, Ohio, October 15, 1836. In 1836 the family moved to Ohio, and settled on the farm which is now the property of Jacob P. HOUFSTATER, which territory was then a complete wilderness..."
