I have visited Pearl Street Brewery,
in the City of La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin, USA.

Brewery/Brewpub Location Map

Reason for Visit: We were on a multi-day trip along the banks of the Mississippi River on the Great River Road, mainly on the Wisconsin side of the river but also portions of Minnesota and Iowa. The brewery is located on a ground floor corner of the historic La Crosse Footwear building. Parts of the structure date back to 1913 and thousands of pairs of shoes and boots were manufactured here each day before the footwear company shifted its production to Asia and moved its headquarters out of Wisconsin. The Pearl Street Brewery moved here from a downtown location in search of greater space, and this building has plenty of it available. Thus, the building has found a new life, shifting from boots to beer.

Pearl Street Brewery Exterior Exterior: This is a closer view of the Pearl Street Brewery than what is available from the online source above. The microbrewery has a 30 barrel system, and even so it occupies just one tiny corner of the larger building, which is actually quite large. The brewery entrance is easily identified by the wooden deck with the Pearl Street banner draped from the railing. It was a warm day and several people were sitting on deck chairs, sipping a few brews, and enjoying the sunshine.
Pearl Street Brewery Bar Brewery Bar: I love microbreweries that understand that a little hospitality shown towards its visitors can result in building a loyal customer base. Pearl Street seems to be part of an emerging trend I've noticed, the placement of a bar and tasting room right in the brewery among the kettles, fermenters, bottling line and grain silos. There were a good number of people just hanging out, enjoying some tasty beers and chatting-it up with the brewery staff. Unfortunately we arrived near the end of their public hours and missed the last tour of the day but that was fine because we could still see the entire brewery anyway because it was right there on the other side of the bar. They also had a lot of merchandise for sale plus six-packs in a refrigerator and growlers to go straight from the tap.
Pearl Street Brewery Bar Pint Glass: The Pearl Street Brewery also included couches and a foosball table, inviting people to linger for awhile. It was like the perfect "man cave". This is one of their pint glasses (half drunk by yours truly) sitting on a coffee table with the bar and brewery behind it. The Pearl Street logo can be seen on the glass but admittedly this isn't one of my better photographs.
