"LIEUT. BENADAM GALLUP (Bena-John-John), son of Benadam and Esther (PRENTICE) GALLUP b Groton, Conn. April 18 1693; d Sept 30 1755; m Jan 11 1716 Eunice COBB b 1696; d Feb 1 1759 dau of Henry and Lois (HALLET) COBB. Both buried Gallup Cem Ledyard, Conn. They built a log cabin in No. Groton upon a part of the original land grant, northeast of the homesite. His descendants called the enclosure plot where the cabin stood ‘The Old Close.’ This was the first home of Eunice and Benadam, Jr. and it was the first GALLUP house in No. Groton, now Ledyard. Benadam accumulated land in that area as evidenced by deeds dated 1714, 1722 and 1733; in 1725 Benadam Sr. deeded 300 acres to Benadam Jr. in the township of Groton, ‘it being the land that my son dwelleth upon.’ In 1730, a commodious house was built; in 1733 he was commissioned a Lieut. of 2nd Co., Conn. Colony."
