"PIONEER OF PERRY TAKES OWN LIFE. B. E. CUMMINS, 83, Former Village President, Hangs Self; Had Been Ill. Special to the State Journal: PERRY, December 7 -- B. E. CUMMINS, 83, former village president and business man here and one of the early settlers of Perry, hanged himself in the bathroom of his home near here early Saturday morning. According to Coroner Russel LaROWE, CUMMINS' lifeless body was found by his widow, Ella, a short time afteer he had arisen to build a fire as usual. LaROWE indicated that there would be no inquest, although he said there was no apparent reason for the suicide except CUMMINS' recent illness of sugar diabetes. Born north of Perry, CUMMINS came here with his parents to become one of the first settlers of this village. He became active in civic affairs, serving on the village council and as the council president about 35 years ago. He operated a harness shop here for a number of years before retiring to a farm north of Perry. Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Fred KLUNZINGER of Mt. Pleasant and Miss Gladys CUMMINS of Flint; and a sister, Mrs. Marie BUSH of Lansing. The body was removed to the LaROWE funeral home here to await funeral arrangements."
