"Soon after midnight, as the Sabbath morning was dawning on July 9th, Grandma McGAUGHY (as she was familiarly called) passed quietly and peaceably from this life, throwing aside these mortal robes to be clothed in the garments of immortality. Mrs. Lively Ann McGAUGHY (nee LITTLE) was born in Lawrence County, Ala., April 1st, 1824, and died July 9th, 1899. She was married to Samuel E. McGAUGHY in the fall of 1847. She professed faith in Christ in the summer of 1844 and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Hickory Grove in Lawrence County, remaining a member until her death. They moved to Marshall County in 1848, and she has lived her life here among relatives and friends. She was the mother of a large family, her husband being a widower with ten children when she married him, and nine children were born of their union. Her husband preceded her to rest 14 years, but her feet were steadfast in the journey toward the holy land, and she has now overtaken him, and with what a record -- more than 55 years of living and working for the Master. A few days before her death, her son, Charley, the only one remaining at home with her, told her that her case was considered critical by her physician and friends, and she assured him she was ready for the Master's call, and when the summons came her death was serene and beautiful as the going down of the sun. Only one of her step-children, Mrs. Freeman DUNCAN of the Liberty neighborhood, survive her, and four of her own, Mr. James M. McGAUGHY of Tioga, Tex.; Mrs. Lucinda LESTER of Mt. Pleasant; Mr. C. C. McGAUGHY of Ogelsby, Texas and Mr. Charley of this place, with whom she lived. Her children, grandchildren and many relatives and friends weep not as those without hope, for they know when life's toil is over for each of them, their mother and friend awaits them in the 'home beyond.'"
