"C. M. COLUMBUS, 71, CONTRACTOR, DEAD. Washington Builder Traced His Ancestry to Discoverer of America. Christopher M. COLUMBUS, 71 years old, a well known building contractor here for many years and native Washingtonian, who traced his ancestry to the discoverer of America, died at his residence, 34 Q street northeast, last night. He had been in failing health for several years and contracted pneumonia Monday. Mr. COLUMBUS was the father of Charles J. COLUMBUS, formerly secretary of the Merchants and Manufacturers Association of this city and now general manager of the New York Board of Trade and Transportation. The latter hurried to Washington last night upon learning of his father's death. ERECTED MANY BUILDINGS. Mr. COLUMBUS erected many of the older buildings in Washington. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. Mr. and Mrs. COLUMBUS celebrated their forty-eighth wedding anniversary January 22. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary FEALY COLUMBUS; his son, five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock with services following in St. Martin's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., when requiem high mass will be sung. NEPHEWS TO ASSIST AT MASS. Three nephews will assist at the mass. Rev. Ignacius FEALY of St. Agnes' Church, Woodlawn, Md. will be the celebrant; Rev. Leo K. FEALY of St. Paul's Catholic Church of this city, deacon, and Rev. Joseph F. LANE of the Church of Our Lady, Baltimore, Md., subdeacon. Rev. Bernard W. PROSISE of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Baltimore, will be master of ceremonies, and Mgr. George DOUGHERTY, vice president of Catholic University of America, will preach the sermon. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery."
