"Old Resident Dies (From Thursday's Daily.) Herman HARTE, a highly respected pioneer resident of Watertown, passed away yesterday morning, at the family home, 412 Cody street, after a short illness. The deceased was a native of Germany, where he was born, Dec. 29th, 1824, therefore was almost eighty-two years of age. He came to America in 1851 and since that time has been a resident of this city. He is survived by two children, Mrs. F. H. MEYER of this city, and William HARTE of Chicago, also by a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Augusta MENK of this city, George HARTE of Waterloo and Fred HARTE of this city. The last sad rites will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home to St. John's Lutheran church. William HARTE of Chicago, is in the city, called here by the death of his father."

"I, Herman HARTE, of the city of Watertown, county of Jefferson and state of Wisconsin, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefor make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, this is to say: First. After all my lawful debts, including my funeral expenses and the expenses of my last sickness, are paid and discharged, the rest and residue of my real estate and personal property, I give, de vise, bequeath and dispose of as follows, to wit: Second. I give and bequeath to my daughter Auguste MEYER, the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars. I also give and bequeath to her all my household and kitchen furniture, including bed, bedding and family wearing apparel. Third. I give and bequeath to my son William HARTE, the sum of four hundred ($400) dollars. Fourth. I give and devise Lot No. four (4), in Block No. sixty two (62), as marked and designated on the map or plat of the former village (now city) of Watertown, as surveyed by Milo JONES, in the second ward, in the city of Watertown, county of Jefferson and state of Wisconsin, to my grand children, children of my daughter Auguste MEYER, to wit: Renate KADDATZ, formerly Renate MEYER, Arthur MEYER, Selma MEYER, Bernhard MEYER and Esther MEYER, to have and hold the same, their heirs and assigns, forever... Fifth. All the rest and residue of my estate, both real and personal I give, bequeath and devise to my aforesaid grand children... Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint my friend Herman TETZLAFF to be the executor of this my last will and testament, and I hereby revoke all former wills made by me.
