- "The Frederick WITTE family immigrated to the Town of Lebanon, Dodge County [Wisconsin] sometime between 1846 and 1850. Initial German settlement at Lebanon had taken place in 1843, when twelve families of Oderbrücker and a few Pomeranians decided to settle further west of their fellow countrymen who had chosen to establish themselves at Kirchhayn, Freistadt, and Cedarburg..."
- "Census listings explain that in 1850 the 37 year old Witte, his wife Caroline (40 years), their four children, August (10 years), Bernardine (8 years), Albert (7 years), and William (4 years) were sharing their home with an older couple (probably his parents...) on a Town of Lebanon [Dodge Co., WI] farm valued at $800. The entire family being native Germans suggests an arrival date of no earlier than 1846, as the youngest child was four years old at the time of the census..."
- "By 1860 the Frederick WITTE farm in Section 30 of the Town of Lebanon [Dodge Co., WI] consisted of 120 acres. Farm value has increased to $1,500, with the family's personal estate rising to $300. Traditional Fachwerk style [a type of half-timbered architecture] buildings used by WITTE included his house, horse stable, and threshing barn... The census reports a fourth son, whom they named Herman, was born in 1852. Frederick's mother, now 73 years old, continued to live with the family."
