NOTES PROVIDED IN THE ERLENKOTTER FAMILY RECORDS:

"On 14 June 1815 John GRINNEL, Jr., and his wife Phebe of Farmington, Ontario County, NY sold to Elisha GARDNER of the same town for $60 one undivided tenth part of about 52 acres in lot 89 and about 38 acres in the southeast part of lot 104 in Farmington, their share by heirship from Nathan WESCOAT, deceased [Ontario County Deed Records, Book 59, pp. 276-277]."

John GRINNELL "... served during the War of 1812 in Howell's 39th Regiment of New York militia. He was known as 'John GRINNELL, Jr.' to distinguish him from his uncle John at Farmington, NY. As "John G. GRINDLE" he appears as a head of household in the1820 census at Fallowfield, Crawford County, PA"... "He is listed just before Andrew 'BOTTLES,' who is believed to be his stepfather-in-law."
