"Handley CHIPMAN (Hon. John, Dea. John), b. in Sandwich, Mass., Aug. 31, 1717; m. Jean, daughter of John and Margaret ALLEN, April 24, 1740, and had 11 children in Newport, R.I. Mr. CHIPMAN was a cabinetmaker, Justice of Peace, and a pious Congregationalist. He left Newport, R.I., May 7, 1761, sailed to Nova Scotia, and settled in Cornwallis, Kings County, where his wife d. April 5, 1775, aged 53... Mr. CHIPMAN m. 2d., Nancy, daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth (CLARK) POST, Dec. 14, 1775; had 5 more children. Mr. CHIPMAN was Justice of Peace, and Judge of Probate in Nova Scotia; left some comments on the New Testament; d. May 27, 1799. His wife d. 1802, aged 51... Children: i. Elizabeth, b. in Newport, R.I., Feb. 19, 1741; m. William DEXTER, of Cranston, R.I., and d. Feb. 9, 1764. ii. John, b. July 21, 1742; died soon. iii. Margaret, b. July 17, 1743; m.
