Updated March 31, 2026. Compiled by Howder (www.howderfamily.com) from the following source(s):(1) Fader, Edythe. Western Pioneers: The Descendents of Peter Pine Alexander. Concrete, Washington, United States, The Concrete Herald, 1977. Available via Ancestry.com.
Page 1: Parents of Charles ALEXANDER were Peter Pine ALEXANDER (29 Feb 1820 - 27 Dec 1881) and Eliza McCLURE; Grandfather Zina ALEXANDER (24 Dec - 1789 - 1872); Great-Grandfather Simon ALEXANDER (5 Nov 1747 - 18 Sep 1822); 2nd Great-Grandfather David ALEXANDER (7 Sep 1715, England - d. Menden, Massachusetts)
Pages 4-5: "Frank's older brother, Charles David [ALEXANDER], who had married Albina STEVENS in 1869, ten years earlier, had a farm at the north edge of Montfort [Wisconsin] in 1879., and Frank evidently boarded with them for a time... From other records we learn that Frank and his oldest brother, Charles David, owned and operated a 'Cane Mill' from which they sold quantities of sorghum, as he often sold sugar to my father and others."
Page 20: "Different plans were now made by Charles, his son, Lauren, and Frank to go West. How far to go was evidently undecided among the three of them as yet. But Father's Day Book states: 'Aug. 8, 1883, Started west with CDA (Charles) and Lauren'."
Page 22: "When Frank and Charles set out for the west in the fall of 1883 Lauren came with them. He was the oldest of Charles' children, about thirteen at the time. There is no record among my father's papers of when Albina and the other three children came 'west' but they were all living in Tamora, Nebraska, not long after..."
Page 25: "Because of a long imprisonment near the close of the Civil War, Charles David was always in rather poor health, for the rebel prison conditions were extremely poor and many of the soldiers incarcerated there died before they could be released. Charles was fortunate enough to survive the ordeal, but suffered the rest of his life because of it. He died of apoplexy in 1912."

"CHARLES DAVID ALEXANDER; Was Born in Broom County, New York, October 12, 1844; Died in Tamora, Nebraska, March 3, 1911, Aged 66 Years, 4 Months and 21 Days; Buried in Tamora Cemetery March 5... About 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, comparatively in his usual good health, the subject of this brief mention was attacked with cerebral hemorrhage, and from which effects, notwithstanding all care of tender hands and medical assistance, died at the home of his son, Lauren, the same night at 12:35 whither loving hands had freighted his stricken body. At an early age, in 1856, he with his parents moved to Wisconsin, where in the flower of his towering manhood, he wooed, won and married Miss Albina STEVENS in Iowa county, that state in 1869. To this union were born two sons and two daughters, namely: Lauren S., Tamora; Horace G., Omaha; Mrs. Lida SHOWALTER, University Place, and Mrs. Amy EMERSON, Sterling, Colorado, who, together with his bereaved and aged widow, with the exception of Mrs. SHOWALTER, were present at the sad obesquies, she being too ill to attend. The services took place at the Presbyterian church, reverently and touchingly conducted by the pastor, Rev. James B. BUTTER, assisted by Rev. G. E. McCLURE, pastor of the M. E. church... At the close of the church service the last sad rites were feelingly conducted by members of Utica lodge, No. 96, A. F. and A. M., of which he was an esteemed member... In the year of 1862 he enlisted in Co. I, 19th Wisconsin volunteers, and after serving the required three years, re-enlisted, where he served his nation, that perpetuity might be inscribed upon the folds of the stars and stripes. For many years he has been a member of the Seward G. A. R. post. He had been a resident of near Tamora and in Tamora for the past 28 years, having been postmaster here for a period of 12 years..."
