"Death of Major GILKE. STRONG, Me., April 7. Major E. J. GILKE, for many years postmaster of this town and member of the famous convention here which organized the Republican party and at which the late James E. BLAINE was present, died today. He was 82 years old and leaves a widow. Major GILKE was a member of the Methodist church and prominent in Grange work. His death was due to a grippe attack."

"Last Will and Testament of Eben J. GILKEY. Be it known that I, Eben J. GILKEY, of the town of Strong in the County of Franklin and State of Maine, being of sound mind and memory, but knowing the uncertainty of human life, do make this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Will and Testaments by me made and signed, to wit; -- Art. 1st. I give and bequeath the following articles which I regard as relics or keepsakes, to the various persons named hereinafter, as follows: -- To my nephew Nelson W. TRUE I give my English cap lever Silver Watch which formerly belonged to my brother Samuel W. GILKEY; -- to my nephew John G. TRUE my Ebony Cane marked 'E.J.G from J.S.G.'; -- to my nephew Clinton V. STARBIRD my Pitch pine Cane, and also my sword and accompanying equipments; to my nephew Albert M. STARBIRD my Crooked handle Cane; to my nephew John H. GILKEY my old family Bible, and also my Round center Table, both of which I desire to be kept in the family relationship, -- the Table having formerly belonged to my grandmother; -- and to my nephew Henry W. TRUE my old Writing Desk in trunk form which formerly belonged to my father. Art 2nd I give, bequeath and devise all the rest, remainder and residue of my estate, of whatever kind, real and personal, that I may be possessed of at the time of my decease and after the payment of all my just debts, funeral charges and expenses of administration, to my wife Dora A. GILKEY, to have and to hold during her natural life for her comfortable support; and I authorize her to sell any part or all of my estate, real or personal, then remaining to for her and invest the same as she may think best and expend so much of the income or principal thereof as may be necessary for her comfortable support as long as she may live or until the said property or estate shall all have been expended. Art. 3rd. I further give, bequeath and devise all of my estate, real and personal, that may be remaining unexpended at the time of my said wife's decease and after the payment of all her just debts, funeral charges and expenses of administration if any, to the Methodist Episcopal Church of Strong, the same to be convertible into money by the Trustees of said Church and to be held in trust by them as a permanent fund, the income arising from the investment of which shall be paid annually to the said M.E. Church, through its Treasurer for the support of preaching in said Strong. Art. 4th. I hereby authorize and appoint Abner W. MAYO and my wife Dora A. GILKEY to act as co-executors of this my last Will and that they may not be required to give bonds to entitle them to letters testamentary nor to return an inventory of my estate. In testimony whereof I have this day hereupon to set my hand and seal and declare this my last Will and Testament the Twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and three."
