The will of Samuel CHIPMAN references his wife, Mary GREEN CHIPMAN:

"I give and bequeath to my loving wife Mary CHIPMAN in lieu of her Dower the use and Improvement of my great room in my Dwelling houfe with some proper use use of the other parts of said houfe and the orchard and garden as her occasions may require, my best cow and Six sheep and my colt I give and bequeath my said wife to be at her own disposal said cow and sheep it be kept summer and winter by my son Timothy for his mothers use and benefit further I give to my wife yearly and every year while she remains at my said houfe four cord of oak wood Eighty weight of beef Eighty weight of pork Ten bushels of Indian corn five of English Ten pounds of swingled flax when raised on my land, hereafter given my son Timothy all said particulars to be paid her yearly by my said son Timothy unless she may cause to of accept of privilege of improving afire in conjunction with s'Timothy which said Timothy shall permit if she see cause further in lieu of my wives Dower I give and bequeath to her my bed and furniture all the goods and utensils she brought to me at marriage with the use of my low chest of drawer in particular and all such utensils of wood iron brass etc. within does as she shall need and privilege of being carried to the public worship by my son Timothy."
