SPECULATIVE: I am still researching Mary McNAMARA's early years and I've been working on a theory that I'm attempting to prove. Her parents were listed as Martin and Elizabeth McNAMARA on her marriage record. There is a Martin McNAMARA (1829 - 7 July 1862) buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Washington, DC (Find a Grave Memorial ID 190518985) along with his wife Mary Elizabeth SMITH (died 19 Feb 1856; "Daughter of the late Walter A. SMITH. Aged 21 years & 6 months. May she rest in peace") and their son ("Her infant son Martin May 2, 1856 aged 15 months 17 days"). A marriage record shows Martin McNAMARA, the father, then marrying Margaret LYONS in Washington, DC on 18 April 1857. Margaret had previously been married to John W. SULLIVAN (1824-1855) and she shares a grave marker with him at Mt. Olivet. On the marker, it lists her as "Margaret SULLIVAN-McNAMARA" (1822-1878), and the marker also includes their daughter Mary A. SULLIVAN (1854-1905).

All of these details fit in nicely with 1860 and 1870 Census Records. If the scenario above is correct, then Mary McNAMARA's mother Mary Elizabeth SMITH passed away when the child Mary was about three years old; her father Martin subsequently married the widow Margaret LYONS SULLIVAN when Mary was about four years old; then Martin passed away when Mary was about nine years old, and finally Mary lived with her step-mother and step-siblings until she married Thomas FEALY when she was nineteen.

C. is 7 years old, born in D.C., and is attending school. Other members of the household include Ellen SULLIVAN (age 11) and Mary SULLIVAN (age 8).

The family resides on North Capitol Street.

The 26 Feb 1889 birth record for the unnamed daughter (actually Eugenia) of Thomas and Mary (McNAMARA) FEALY lists Mary's birthplace as Gordonsville, Virginia
