It seemed to make sense to call it <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=3780\">Odds and Ends<\/a>.  So I plan to do the same thing again today. Logically I should call this one Odds and Ends 2, like any good Hollywood blockbuster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Salt Lake City Area Geo-Oddities?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I will be visiting northern Utah for several days in the near future, primarily within the vicinity of Salt Lake City and Ogden. I&#8217;ll be radiating out from there and hitting a number of new counties including some along the nearest borders of Nevada, Idaho and Wyoming. The area on this map will probably be in play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m10!1m8!1m3!1d3056786.7913097776!2d-112.13745100000001!3d41.566142!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1613387509432!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have vague plans for the usual tourist sites but I&#8217;m also hoping to track down a few geo-oddities. I have West Wendover, the <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=811\">only spot in Nevada on Mountain time<\/a>, already on the list. Additionally I hope to bag the <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=23689\">Great Salt Lake Base and Meridian<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/8914705003\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/2847\/8914705003_19dc4e5498_b.jpg\" alt=\"The Wendover Will statue in West Wendover, Nevada. What other geo-oddities warrant a visit? I&#8217;ll take &#8220;normal&#8221; tourist suggestions too. I&#8217;ve only been here to change planes at the airport on previous visits so I&#8217;m willing to try just about anything. Also I&#8217;m sure the family will want to see more than a meridian marker and Wendover Will. Please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>: I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/blog\/?p=8864\">completed the trip<\/a> and I loved it!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loop Road<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Longtime loyal reader Thias sent me an email message with the enticing title, &#8220;Real Loop Road.&#8221; I absolutely had to follow the link he provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!4v1613387799444!6m8!1m7!1sOC-SE7J2bO5fTnZUvBjLBA!2m2!1d39.832010899019!2d2.816009016532306!3f337.69!4f-2.3799999999999955!5f0.5970117501821992\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out this crazy road in Escorca, Spain, on the island of Majorca. It reminds me of a cloverleaf entrance\/exit ramp on a limited access highway. However this is a standalone structure, a road that literally loops upon itself as the most efficient way to navigate a steep grade. He wondered if I&#8217;d ever seen anything like this before. I had not so I appeal to the 12MC audience. Is this a common design? Can anyone find other instances and post map links?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strange Searches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not talking about the usual wacky queries sent to me randomly by the major search engines. Rather, I&#8217;m referring to people who actually come onto my website and then use the search box on the upper-right corner of the page. I&#8217;m amazed by the frequency of people who search for &#8220;search.&#8221; I think it happens because people want to see if it actually works. Just for the record, <a href=\"\/blog\/index.php?s=Search\">lots of 12MC articles<\/a> use the word &#8220;search.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also like the searches that specify exact latitude-longitude coordinates. The search function only examines text so a specific coordinate will not show up unless I&#8217;ve used it in an article. Other than <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=1446\">45.000000,-90.000000<\/a>, the chance of that is practically nil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d24886.860802971114!2d-121.31741946312714!3d38.76696997959095!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x0!2zMzjCsDQ2JzAxLjEiTiAxMjHCsDE3JzU5LjciVw!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1613388002538!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most recent instance was &#8220;38.76697,-121.29991.&#8221; That equates to 501 Derek Place in Roseville, CA, a town outside of Sacramento. This is the home of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dream-theatre.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dream Theater Center for the Performing Arts<\/a>, &#8220;<em>formed to provide adult individuals with special needs a unique and meaningful dramatic arts program to educate them in the arts and to provide a venue in which they can take part in dramatic productions<\/em>.&#8221; It sound like a noble purpose and I wish them well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would be so cool if my search box was actually as capable as some people expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thanks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I have some additional Thank You&#8217;s for various anonymous regular readers. As a result, and for a brief glorious moment I came up first in Google searches for the phrase &#8220;Twelve Mile Circle.&#8221; I was even higher than Wikipedia! I hope others will consider selecting +1 since apparently it does matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also a hearty Thank You for the person(s) who mention this site on their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
