So I thought I would take a moment to look back at the site by reviewing some highlights. Maybe I&#8217;ll even reflecting briefly upon the path that lead to this point. I wasn&#8217;t sure I&#8217;d last even this long when I started, as I feared the tyranny of a recurring deadline. So my progress certainly encourages me to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My general website began in 1995. Back then I had the luxury of adding pages to it whenever I felt like it. Certainly I didn&#8217;t consider a regular readership that expected frequent, fresh material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Twelve Mile Circle, so far I&#8217;ve sent seventy four dispatches out to the public. This one makes seventy five. Throughout this time I&#8217;ve managed to keep to a fairly regular schedule too. I posted at least one entry every every third day and sometimes more, even when far from home. I&#8217;ve even waged and survived <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=65\">an epic battle with spam<\/a> as I imagine anyone who maintains a blog eventually has to do. I haven&#8217;t run out of topics or new ideas either so I suppose that&#8217;s a good thing too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Most Popular Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/9507073296\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5454\/9507073296_5ec7aa756c_b.jpg\" alt=\"Witte Outhouse; Old World Wisconsin. Photo by howderfamily.com; (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the Witte Family outhouse. It&#8217;s the only object from our family that exists as part of a museum collection. I featured this about a month ago in &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=70\">GPS and Genealogy<\/a>,&#8221; one of several examples of mapping technology applied creatively to an existing field of study. Surprisingly, this has been the most popular article on Twelve Mile Circle by far. Other blogs picked it up and hits came rolling in from every direction. It&#8217;s amusing that simple potty humor garnered so much attention. By contrast, most of my serious and well-researched entries barely raised a ripple. Even so I picked up some regular readers as a result, and for that I am grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some Other Crowd Favorites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next tier of popular posts included the &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=53\">Smallest County in the USA<\/a>&#8221; series, &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=58\">Arizona Does Not Recognize Daylight Saving Time<\/a>, and the &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=59\">Georgia Border Dispute<\/a>.&#8221; What many of these hold in common is that they were all posted fairly recently. It took a little while for people to find Twelve Mile Circle. Now it seems to be establishing a small niche and a steady growth in regular visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of my favorite posts haven&#8217;t received much traffic at all. I think it&#8217;s partially because I wrote them in the early days before anyone knew the site existed. My favorite topics included those that offered an interesting thread for me to pull. As a result, I learned a lot although generally only for personal satisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I discovered the &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=62\">Lowest Elevation in England<\/a>&#8221; not long ago. It continues to sink as farmers siphon groundwater for agricultural purposes. I explored &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=45\">New Urbanism Viewed through Maps<\/a>,&#8221; highlighting a landscape and architectural design concept that is both friendly to environment and to people. Then I found an odd &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=23\">7th Flag Over Texas<\/a>,&#8221; in the form of a short-lived country that didn&#8217;t survive. Also, I pinpointed the &#8220;<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=12\">Washington, DC Area&#8217;s Last Phone Booth<\/a>,&#8221; which sadly I&#8217;ve learned as of mid-April no longer exists. If you&#8217;re new to the site I invite you to take a look at some of those earlier posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve determined that I don&#8217;t really know which posts will be hits, which will be misses, and which will attract more readership to the site. So I will continue to write about what interests me, as I have in the past. I only hope that you will continue to tag along for the ride. If it were about sheer numbers I suppose every article would mention outhouses but that&#8217;s not where I want to take the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I do have some loyal visitors, some links from other blogs and a number of thoughtful comments submitted. There are even some of you who follow the site on rss feeds. I thank all of you, and I invite you to let me know what you think.
