One path takes awhile. Stick around here long enough, post a bunch of comments and eventually I\u2019ll get to know you and write an article that I think will appeal <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=2696\">to you directly<\/a>, maybe <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=6070\">seriously<\/a>, maybe somewhat <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=6917\">frivolously<\/a>. Another path involves pure accidents of geography. Readers from anomalous locations receive quick attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wamego<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As much as I obsess over Google Analytics maps, does anyone think I\u2019d miss this developing trend in Kansas over the last couple of months?:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/graphics\/blog\/kansas-google-analytics.gif\" alt=\"Internet Visitors from Kansas. Screen print from Google Analytics for howderfamily.com\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Wamego, Kansas. Hopefully I didn\u2019t just freak-out my Wamego visitor. He or she should have no worries: I have absolutely no way to identify this visitor except as a big blob on a map. You, sir or madam, will continue to have complete anonymity. I feature very few reader locations this specifically and I\u2019m always a little nervous when I do it. I think I scared away <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=759\">my most famous reader<\/a> after one instance. Well, there\u2019s a 0.01% chance that it was a famous reader but I\u2019m sure it was her. She\u2019s been too busy with her TV reality show to stop by lately. I understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s possible that Wamego serves a point-of-presence (POP) for an Internet service provider, a funnel for a much larger geographic area. That\u2019s what we think happened <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=4411\">in Mount Pearl<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of Manhattan, the one in Kansas not the famous one in New York, sits twenty minutes down the road with ten times Wamego&#8217;s population. It\u2019s home to Kansas State University and I get a lot of .edu traffic in general. Wamego might mask the true location but I&#8217;m going to ignore that possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Toto, I&#8217;ve a feeling we&#8217;re not in Kansas anymore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dorothy may have left Kansas for awhile in the classic 1939 movie &#8220;The Wizard of Oz,&#8221; but a <a href=\"https:\/\/ozmuseum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">museum dedicated to all things Oz<\/a> is tethered firmly to Lincoln Street in Wamego (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/BRRiTPsGL9bFtMKZ7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/travelks\/6853889514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/6039\/6853889514_c92a18aa8f_z.jpg\" alt=\"Oz Museum Exterior. Photo by Kansas Tourism; (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/ShowUserReviews-g39122-d297173-r33328037-OZ_Museum-Wamego_Kansas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online reviews<\/a> I consulted describe it as a small but worthwhile museum if one approaches it with appropriate expectations. The collection covers a complete Oz spectrum and not just the movie. It helps to have a wider interest in the topic, apparently. I wouldn&#8217;t make a special effort to see the Oz Museum but I&#8217;d drop in if I happened to be cruising through Kansas along Interstate 70. Why not? After all, I&#8217;m the kind of guy <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=4177\">who detoured for a giant shoe<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitwamego.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/graphics\/blog\/oz-attractions-map.jpg\" alt=\"Wamego Kansas. Fair use of copyright image from Wamego, Kansas Visitor Information site\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Wamego didn&#8217;t stop with an Oz museum though. They ran with that theme and they never looked back. Diners can order a Yellow Brick Burro\u2019d, Tin Man Black Bean Burrito, or Toto-ly OZsome Spices at Toto&#8217;s Tacoz. Also, I wasn&#8217;t aware that Kansas was known for wine but apparently I&#8217;m wrong because one can also pick up a few bottles at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ozwinerykansas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oz Winery<\/a>. I think I&#8217;d get the Drunken Munchkin. Finally, visitors who arrive during autumn might be lucky enough to time their trip with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oztoberfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OZtoberFest<\/a>. The puns are never-ending here in Wamego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m a bit surprised that Kansas doesn&#8217;t take advantage of the Oz connection on a wider scale but good for Wamego for claiming the crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What else would one expect from the town that holds a festival called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WamegoCVB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ridiculous Days<\/a>?
