They seemed to follow a common theme somewhat like &#8220;strange boundary five points ma. conn.&#8221;<sup><a href=\"#one\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> The only border anomaly between Massachusetts and Connecticut that I knew anything about was the <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=409\">Southwick Jog<\/a>, which I featured back in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/8842998675\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/7345\/8842998675_d23c55cebc_b.jpg\" alt=\"Entering the Southwick Jog. Photo by howderfamily.com; (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Take Back the Notch!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seven is More Than Five<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I know when I&#8217;m out of my league so I consulted with an expert, no less than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctmq.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steve from Connecticut Museum Quest<\/a> who knows everything about anything worth knowing in Connecticut.<sup><a href=\"#two\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> Nope, Five Points is just an intersection in one of the least populated towns in the state. There&#8217;s no good reason for a person to be wasting any time searching for that obscure spot &#8212; like that ever stopped foolishness on the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five Points isn&#8217;t even that remarkable. Is that the best Connecticut can do? I thought maybe they didn&#8217;t deserve to get the Jog back, but I kept that to myself. Heck, I knew something in Virginia with seven right off the top of my head.<sup><a href=\"#three\">[3]<\/a><\/sup> For your edification, Seven Corners:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d12426.09286071831!2d-77.1526103521291!3d38.86626955756729!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x89b7b47cee4f8a25%3A0xc1daa0ad1130b70e!2sSeven%20Corners%2C%20VA!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1599250346708!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standing at this spot you could travel towards any of seven very different destinations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>East Broad Street, into the heart of the <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=52\">smallest recognized &#8220;County Equivalent&#8221; in the United States<\/a>. Do not speed, you <i>will<\/i> get a ticket!<\/li><li>Wilson Boulevard, to a really cool <a href=\"https:\/\/edencenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vietnamese shopping center<\/a>.<\/li><li>Arlington Boulevard East, past <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/D.C._sniper_attacks#Virginia_and_other_areas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sniper Depot<\/a>.<\/li><li>Leesburg Pike past one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dogfishalehouse.com\/dogfish-head-alehouse-falls-church.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dogfish Head Alehouses<\/a>. Mmmm&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/zymurgy\/dogfish-head.html\">beer<\/a>.<\/li><li>Sleepy Hollow Road to, I dunno, some guy on horseback with a pumpkin head?<\/li><li>Arlington Boulevard West, where you could continue along U.S. Route 50 for another three thousand miles to Sacramento, California.<\/li><li>Hillwood Avenue, to, some suburb or something?<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Counterpoint<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve saved Connecticut&#8217;s honor though. He suggested that I revisit the Five Points map, slide it down another mile or so, and take a look here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m10!1m8!1m3!1d11868.644629724984!2d-72.78845818518067!3d41.95387340007234!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1599250625429!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OK, that&#8217;s downright ugly, I admit it. There&#8217;s a whole spaghetti mess of roads coming together so I&#8217;ll let Connecticut off the hook. But then I got to thinking that there must be lots of other places with Seven Somethings. It didn&#8217;t take but a few minutes to find a whole pile of them. There&#8217;s Seven Peaks in Utah, and Seven Valleys and Seven Springs in Pennsylvania. There&#8217;s a whole mess of Seven [name your favorite geographic feature] wineries all over the United States. Let&#8217;s not forget the Seven Seas<sup><a href=\"#four\">[4]<\/a><\/sup> either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Then I found the ghost kid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven Hills, Ohio is just outside of Cleveland. I popped down into Google Street View<sup><a href=\"#five\">[5]<\/a><\/sup> somewhat randomly onto this exact image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><ins datetime=\"2011-02-09T23:53:45+00:00\"><strong><em>UPDATE: A refreshed Street View image erased the Ghost Kid but he used to be located right here (thus proving the ghostly point):<\/em><\/strong><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!4v1599250775791!6m8!1m7!1sIbNOr7T_J79hljo_N80Ahg!2m2!1d41.38461086323469!2d-81.66836694354762!3f151.29!4f-9.959999999999994!5f0.5970117501821992\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remarkable thing is that the kid appears in only this single image. Click on any of the four directions and he simply vanishes. What&#8217;s really going on of course is that Street View uses composites of several area sweeps. The photo car can&#8217;t move in multiple directions simultaneously of course, at least not in this universe. Travel one block north on Crossview Road and the effect is demonstrated rather plainly by the lighting change.<sup><a href=\"#six\">[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The illusion of the disappearing child occurred when the images were stitched together to form a continuous road network. You didn&#8217;t really think I was advocating a ghost sighting, did you?<sup><a href=\"#seven\">[7]<\/a><\/sup> Please. Cynicism and skepticism are my dominant personality traits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12MC Loves Footnotes!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"one\"><\/a><sup>[1]<\/sup> This is the actual wording of a genuine query. Maybe you didn&#8217;t know that what you type into a search engine can be seen by the owner of the website on the receiving end once you follow the link? Be careful what you search. You don&#8217;t want to be the subject of ridicule. I&#8217;d still like to meet the Little Einstein who found my website recently with the query that said &#8212; and I am not making this up &#8212; &#8220;what states border Hawaii?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"two\"><\/a><sup>[2]<\/sup><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctmuseumquest.com\/?page_id=3079\">Take back the notch!<\/a> Steve&#8217;s blog is so good that I read it regularly even though I&#8217;ve been to Connecticut only <i>twice<\/i> in my life. Check it out!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"three\"><\/a><sup>[3]<\/sup> I know an international spot with eight too, but I&#8217;m saving that for another day. Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=416#comment-350\">clue<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"four\"><\/a><sup>[4]<\/sup>I had no idea there was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seven_Seas\">so little consensus<\/a> on this point.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"five\"><\/a><sup>[5]<\/sup>Did you notice the <a href=\"https:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/street-view-year-in-review-and-whats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">massive addition to Street View<\/a> a few days ago? Something like half of the United States is now available.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"six\"><\/a><sup>[6]<\/sup>The Street View of my home shows a beautiful Fall day. Click one image over and there&#8217;s snow on the ground!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br><a name=\"seven\"><\/a><sup>[7]<\/sup>I liked the title of this post so I worked it in. It sounded like a cheesy movie title.
