There are many times in one&#8217;s life when that&#8217;s a fantastic proclamation and a source of pride. It could be when a favorite sports team wins the big championship. Maybe it&#8217;s a university with a top-ranked academic department. Or perhaps it&#8217;s a city judged to be the best place to raise a family. There are other lists, however, where nobody wants appear at the top: crime; obesity and school drop-out rates come to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Well This One Sucks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I knew I&#8217;d suffered through some pretty lousy weather in the Washington, DC area (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/fXYD39T73EKhF4Hi6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>) during the summer of 2010 but now it&#8217;s official: the <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Weather Channel <\/a>proclaimed that the my hometown endured the worst weather in the United States these last few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/8871459260\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3690\/8871459260_917c7134e8_b.jpg\" alt=\"United States Capitol; Washington, DC. Photo by howderfamily.com; (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Your Weather Sucks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We had it all. Drought settled in during June and into July. Bruising thunderstorms pounded the area several times and uprooted hundreds of trees in early August. Blistering heat moved-in for the long haul. The temperature rose to 90\u00b0 Fahrenheit (32.2\u00b0 c.) or higher on 67 separate days and as recently as last Saturday. It&#8217;s wasn&#8217;t all terrible for me though. Thankfully <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=4707\">I was sitting in Alaska<\/a> wearing a light jacket because of the chill in the air on the day it hit 103\u00b0 (39.4\u00b0 c.) back in DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This followed a brutal winter where <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=3447\">we set snowfall records<\/a> but the Weather Channel rated us only in second place back then. First place for summer and second place for winter, and with that I think we have a really good shot at having the lousiest weather in the United States for 2010!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re #1!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Totally Unrelated:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a couple of unusual queries I&#8217;ve recorded on the website recently.
