With that in mind I thought I&#8217;d throw something special their way, a Google Maps compilation that I recently stumbled across called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?msa=0&amp;msid=104387209316662393178.0004490b957cc8b1e8a16&amp;cd=20&amp;geocode=FbxbWQIdxiMl-w&amp;sll=40.578499,-83.545532&amp;sspn=0.922041,2.469177&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=40.472024,-82.243652&amp;spn=3.727289,9.876709&amp;z=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Weird Ohio Explorations<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve had some fun poking around the waypoints the developer included on the map. You probably don&#8217;t even have to have a connection to Ohio to appreciate many of them although it might be useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have any of the Ohio readers seen these sights?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1sefp-ByzF1v8UIYA3s9JnpDEClo\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a little heavy on spooky supernatural stuff that doesn&#8217;t hold much appeal to a skeptic such as myself. Thankfully, however, there are enough boldly wacky and tacky spots to hold my interest. I&#8217;ve reproduced some of the attractions the developer mentioned in visual format for your amusement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tower of Power<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/sdugas\/4564213945\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3079\/4564213945_30d0b58d6d_b.jpg\" alt=\"Giant Pumpkin. Photo by oomni; (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a water tower shaped like a pumpkin in Circleville, Ohio (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/hcz1UvkYXhGBvnqm6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A-Tisket, A-Tasket<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/thekmancom\/2959852185\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3202\/2959852185_1f4c59a8c0_b.jpg\" alt=\"Longaberger Basket Office Building. Photo by ohkylel @twitter; (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn&#8217;t just some large basket, rather it&#8217;s an entire functional building shaped like a basket. It&#8217;s the headquarters of the Longaberger Basket company in Newark, Ohio (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/fMmbTR4Q4BiNBEfJ6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>). They made it of stucco formed over steel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>: The company <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Longaberger_Company#Basket_Building\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">left the building in 2016 and sold it in 2017<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Corny<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/laughingsquid\/321997848\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/144\/321997848_a018add516_b.jpg\" alt=\"Field of Corn. Photo by Scott Beale; (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This compilation led to an entire park filled with concrete corncobs in Dublin, Ohio (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/ejxMRC1BmNZqxtwE9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>). Good lord, it&#8217;s is so bizarre it borders on the brilliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not So Weird<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/18342111@N00\/132081408\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/55\/132081408_622ac07067_b.jpg\" alt=\"furnace. It&#8217;s not weird at all but I like historical sites so I&#8217;m invoking Writers Prerogative. It&#8217;s part of the Hope Iron Furnace complex (circa 1854-1874) in Allensville, Ohio (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/GXqSqr6FiyvypwfG9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would like me to focus some attention on your state our country please let me know and perhaps offer some suggestions. I get great tips from viewers and love to explore areas I haven&#8217;t covered before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Completely Unrelated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the search engines forwarded a viewer to my site earlier this evening under the search term &#8220;nice big mounds.&#8221; Do you think the viewer may have been a tad bit disappointed when the image he requested produced the following?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/8846105754\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/8124\/8846105754_20dd8b2c3b_b.jpg\" alt=\"Nice Big Mounds at Effigy Mounds National Monument, Iowa. Photo by howderfamily.com; (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These, of course, are ancient conical mounds found at Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa.
