My own photo.\"\/><figcaption>Vianden Castle set high above the town<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A twisted route led through hills and valleys in northern Luxembourg, the <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=87\">last Grand Duchy<\/a>. We drove through Clervaux and Vianden, and thick stands of forest.  It was a fun drive with plenty of scenery. We shared the road with mobs of motorcyclists and bicyclists that were also out to enjoy the views and the sunny weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High atop the town of Vianden sat the picturesque castle shown in the photograph (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/YSsNJQw7zQtvxSKf9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>). It looked like something from a fairy tale. Years of restoration brought Vianden Castle to a nearly pristine appearance. Curious visitors such as us ourselves could explore its beauty at leisure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hiked the hills well above the castle to a point where most people wisely took a chairlift instead.
