I wanted to alert the audience to a news article in case you haven&#8217;t seen it yet. It said: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/gates-split-border-community-unite-it-in-disdain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gate splits border community, unites it in disdain<\/a>. This relates to the historically unimpeded border between Derby Line, Vermont, USA and Stanstead, Qu\u00e9bec, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Split Apart<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/auvet\/36155555162\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4423\/36155555162_fc3e0ac2d1_b.jpg\" alt=\"The US-Canada Border. However, steel gates will now close formerly unguarded streets. Officials allege that drug smugglers and illegal immigrants are using online mapping tools to find easy ways across the border. That is unacceptable in a post 9-11 world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a palpable concern. I wonder if I will get onto some kind of &#8220;list&#8221; if I <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/HDRE3S39vHLBhAsL7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post a map link<\/a>. Anyway, you can read it just as easily as I can describe it. So please take a look if it interests you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Obscuring the Border<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Coincidentally, just yesterday I came across a curiosity while conducting some research for the article that will appear tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, Google Maps appeared to blur a portion of the USA &#8211; Canada border (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/NsgeS7ekrexdURCu7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>). Perhaps they wanted to mask the exact locations of border towers and mounted surveillance cameras. Otherwise, why bother? The Derby Line &#8211; Stanstead image appears unblurred for the moment on the day that I&#8217;ve posted this (October 3, 2009). However, for how long will that remain the case? Especially now that the popular news media has publicized it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[<em><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>: Google Maps eventually removed the blurring so we&#8217;ll never know the reason<\/em>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is just a quick post for the morning.
