However, today I am bestowing that rare honor. I got my first website hit from Palau! And it wasn\u2019t one of those phony accidental hits either. Actually, this visitor from Palau remained on the site for a solid couple of minutes. So that&#8217;s pretty cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/islandconservation\/32145849403\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/506\/32145849403_3603abbdb6_b.jpg\" alt=\"Tropical Flock. Photo by Island Conservation; (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Ngeanges, Palau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, the Republic Palau. This island nation in the Pacific Ocean scores highly on several &#8220;-est&#8221; categories. Fittingly, it claims several: one of the &#8220;newest&#8221; to gain independence (1994); one of the &#8220;smallest&#8221;  in size (459 square kilometres); one of the &#8220;fewest&#8221; in population (20,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m12!1m3!1d1013065.5137888861!2d134.456177!3d7.321606000000018!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1603107931086!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Palau maintains a Compact of Free Association with the United States. Through that, it relies upon the United States for economic assistance and military defense. However, Palau is fully independent and belongs to the United Nations and other international bodies. So it most definitely qualifies as a new location for visitors to this website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d32416659.60935406!2d116.54782404297634!3d7.341343974986678!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x32d50cbd2e4296b1%3A0x88d8350eba322108!2sKoror%2C%20Palau!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1603108055262!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hit arrived on my doorstep from Koror, the most populated locale in Palau. About 12,000 people live there. For the life of me I can\u2019t imaging what topic would have drawn someone from Palau to the site. That\u2019s probably why this is the only Palauan visitor in the nearly two years I\u2019ve been tracking aggregate statistics. Let&#8217;s combine that with the nation\u2019s tiny population. Because of that I consider this a rather memorable occasion and certainly worthy of an exclamation point. It doesn\u2019t take much to excite me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welcome, Palau.
