We rented a house a few miles north of Ithaca (map<\/a>) directly on the water on the western side of Cayuga Lake. This was the view one morning from our dock as the sun gently greeted the day. Our location was absolutely as peaceful as the picture implies. We had a relaxing feeling of remoteness but we were still close enough to town when we craved a little civilization too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the house we rented for the week. We brought our own food and linens but otherwise it was fully stocked. It’s a little difficult to see in the photograph, but there was a staircase with three flights of steps directly behind the house leading up to the top of the bluff. Above that was the parking lot. A series of perhaps ten houses clung to a narrow ledge at water level. The road leading to them sat at the top of the cliff. This was really cool. Several people have asked how we found the house, and the answer is the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the view from the dock, facing towards the north. Cayuga Lake extends another forty miles up from here. This is a paradise for people who love the water: plenty of boating, fishing, swimming, or just plain relaxing along the shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
