The Perseverance Trail (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/58%C2%B018'29.3%22N+134%C2%B023'11.4%22W\/@58.3081478,-134.4039965,14z\/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x5400dfa73ed2cd4b:0xdaaf80a0f4c08bdc!2sEbner+Falls!3b1!8m2!3d58.3119444!4d-134.3758333!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d58.3081449!4d-134.3864869\">map<\/a>) is perhaps one of the most accessible. The trailhead is close to downtown where Basin Road ends. It was a path once used by Native Americans for hunting, gathering and fishing. It also became one of Alaska&#8217;s first roads after gold was discovered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silver_Bow_Basin\">Silverbow Basin<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trail passes scenic Ebner Falls (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Ebner+Falls\/@58.3119549,-134.4458712,12z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x5400dfa73ed2cd4b:0xdaaf80a0f4c08bdc!8m2!3d58.3119444!4d-134.3758333\">map<\/a>). It&#8217;s not a difficult walk although there are various branches that will lead hikers high up into the mountains if they are particularly adventurous or need more of a challenge. Water rushes from the hillsides down into the valley forming a natural path for the Perseverance Trail. The Perseverance Trail is the former road\/trail taken by miners working the Silverbow Basin Gold mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/graphics\/travel\/alaska_juneau_perseverance_ebner.jpg\" alt=\"Juneau Waterfall\"\/><figcaption>Looking Down Ebner Falls Along the Perseverance Trail<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is another view of Ebner Falls, this time taken from the top of the waterfall where it begins its downward drop to the valley floor. Tall green walls of temperate rainforest frame the trail as it snakes along the valley floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gold<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/graphics\/travel\/alaska_juneau_perseverance_silverbow.jpg\" alt=\"Juneau Hiking Trail\"\/><figcaption>Abandoned Mine Along the Perseverance Trail<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>History asserts itself in unexpected ways. Abandoned buildings from the old Silverbow gold mines dot hillsides and valleys. Miners a hundred years ago walked along the Perseverance Trail as they carved into the mountainsides. Some gold remains today.
