As a result of this separation, compounded by a surveyor&#8217;s error, St. Martin Parish has two non-contiguous parts.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/8842372257\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3803\/8842372257_67c9b0a39f_b.jpg\" alt=\"St. Martin Parish Lakefront. They cross it as they drive along Interstate 10 through the heart of Cajun Country in southern Louisiana. That\u2019s an easy journey on a wide-open freeway between New Orleans and Houston. Most people probably don\u2019t even notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visiting the southern portion requires a little more effort. Much of it is swampland and there&#8217;s only one real road through it. I took the two photographs above at the southern end of that southern portion, approached via the town of Morgan City in neighboring St. Mary Parish (<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/Bj1bgwXVtr43j5BR9\">map<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being the perfectionist that I am, I felt compelled to experience both chunks of St. Martin Parish in order for this visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/travel\/counties\/united-states-county-map.html\">to count towards my total<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. Martin Parish, Louisiana poses an odd situation (map).
