I never imagined that there were so many creative Ways to approach the situation and it proved to me that I might be able to mine additional road name gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Wayne%27s_World.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/e\/e0\/Wayne%27s_World.jpg\" alt=\"Film poster for Wayne's World. Image by Paramount Pictures; fair use of copyrighted image provided via Wikimedia Commons.\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d have said &#8220;No Way&#8221; while the 12MC audience responded &#8220;Way&#8221; and all that irrelevant quote from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0105793\/quotes\/qt0405513\">Wayne&#8217;s World<\/a> accomplished was to make me feel old when I noticed that the movie was released in 1992, and of course based on a recurring theme from Saturday Night Live even earlier. <em>Great.<\/em> That was a fine way to start the week.(<a href=\"#footnote1\">\u00b9<\/a>) Confronting my own mortality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Let&#8217;s Recap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll summarize a few comments since I realize most viewers don&#8217;t go back once they&#8217;ve read the original article. It also gave me an opportunity to credit a few people for their excellent discoveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d3113.696264693766!2d-120.81678408515523!3d38.70182067960129!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x809a59fac7a95429%3A0xb8daa020511c8ecc!2sThrowita%20Way%2C%20California%2095667!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1620933087627!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Greg flagged Anchorsa Way in Saint Inigoes, MD (a waterfront community near a U.S. naval facility, not surprisingly)<\/li><li>Jbapo mentioned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eldoradodisposal.com\/\">garbage disposal company<\/a> located on Throwita Way in Placerville, CA<\/li><li>Glenn noticed an abundance of Milky Way. I hoped to find one inspired by the candy bar. Alas, they all seemed to observe astronomical themes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">That&#8217;s A No-Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That got me thinking about the possible existence of No Way. Wouldn&#8217;t that be cool? Sadly I couldn&#8217;t find one. I did uncover <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/PYgsjriLGaeXaw8L9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North Way<\/a> in Oceanside, California. One <em>could<\/em> abbreviate that as No. Way with a little twisted logic. Does that count? How about <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/g5LDg1S5SbZ9eRwS7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Know Place<\/a> in New Bloomfield, Missouri?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m12!1m8!1m3!1d1556.418916986102!2d-91.97385665871612!3d38.72153200000001!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!2m1!1sKnow%20Place%2C%20New%20Bloomfield%2C%20MO!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1620933310606!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Where do you live? Know Place.&#8221;<\/em> I could see that creating a wonderful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J_gSWTQKE-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Who&#8217;s-on-First<\/a> scenario without too much effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another Tack<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Then I decided to use WordFind to review every word ending in <a href=\"https:\/\/wordfind.com\/ends-with\/way\/\">Way<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/wordfind.com\/ends-with\/away\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Away<\/a>. I don&#8217;t play much Scrabble and I spend Sunday morning writing Twelve Mile Circle instead of solving the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/crosswords\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times&#8217; crossword puzzle<\/a> so I don&#8217;t normally have much use for this kind of tool. It felt a bit like cheating although it worked effectively enough for my purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That allowed me to uncover numerous additional gems. I&#8217;ll highlight only a few:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>LOTS of examples, too many to mention, for Drive Way, Express Way, High Way, Free Way, and Road Way. I did discover that the faster the implied speed of the name, the more rural and remote the location of the street in question (e.g., does <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/K9jjDZ3UCcAbt2FR9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this road<\/a> look like a freeway?) It also amused me that Maps abbreviated Road Way as <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/J5ScuQNZxtJtzwtdA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rd Way<\/a>.<\/li><li>Cara Way &#8212; as in the caraway seed used as a food seasoning &#8212; made frequent appearances. I don&#8217;t think residents consciously intended to be clever or funny. Cara has become a somewhat common given name for women (albeit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/oact\/babynames\/#ht=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">waning<\/a> in the last decade) and I&#8217;ve noticed that housing developers seem to have a penchant for naming streets after family members when they run out of other ideas.<\/li><li>Any Way? Everywhere.<\/li><li>I found Stowa Way in <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/19RZJ1S9utGLVXZo6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daly City<\/a>, CA; <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/29Q8jBktjQnaB8WE8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cottonwood<\/a>, CA; and <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/eq5ueGSFYQiLkwjb7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Garden Valley<\/a>, ID.<\/li><li>And Sea Way in <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/MG477qcKCF21sYy69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bodega Bay<\/a>, CA; <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/mosQ5rSHyy5R4Txu6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">San Rafael<\/a>, CA; and <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/BUZHJFJpjNUihGiV6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harwich<\/a>, MA.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m8!1m3!1d2942.1298804850444!2d-76.477905!3d42.488791353826635!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x89d0828bacbd1ed9%3A0xf6869fd42bf2740c!2sNor%20Way%2C%20Lansing%2C%20NY%2014850!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1620933894103!5m2!1sen!2sus\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My favorite instance, however, did not appear on the list. That was Nor Way. I couldn&#8217;t tell if its usage implied Norwegian heritage or whether residents simply considered it amusing. Either way(<a href=\"#footnote2\">\u00b2<\/a>), I found Nor Way locations in <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/1eBQtxF29fGibyEX6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ithaca<\/a>, NY; <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/L3YP12Up8TWJp9dA6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barnstable<\/a>, MA; and <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/GHfPTsTYAponD5mS6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harwich<\/a>, MA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are we done with WAY or will the great 12MC audience continue to find even better examples?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Oddities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I would be remiss if I didn&#8217;t highlight additional recent input not directly related to today&#8217;s topic, although noteworthy as standalone curiosities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Longtime reader Peter mentioned what he considered the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/AHVzKggY41MkbW2v7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best street name anywhere<\/a>.&#8221; I concur for <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=2824\">obvious reasons<\/a>.<\/li><li>Finally, Doug sent an email to Twelve Mile Circle. It wasn&#8217;t about a street, rather a town. Take a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/nEVF5zyQbbxQagMf9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">peculiar boundaries<\/a> of Round Mountain, Texas including its spindly legs and a divot at its primary intersection.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I enjoy these little discoveries so kindly keep them coming!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12MC Loves Footnotes!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><a name=\"footnote1\"><\/a>(\u00b9) Please forgive me if I sound a little surly. I&#8217;m still trying to ease back into normal 12MC production after my recent holiday. I appreciate everyone bearing with me as I posted a long series of travel articles. So I know from reader statistics that those are not audience favorites, however I enjoy them so that&#8217;s what you got. I did try to sprinkle in a few genuine anomalies like the KYTNVA Tripoint and the Time Zone thingy in between Turtleman and the Interstate rest stop.
