Perhaps it comes from crossing a body of water at a personal level. Maybe it comes from taking the slow route and enjoying the ride as much as the destination. Regardless, few things please me as much as standing on the deck of a ferryboat as it cuts through the waves. I love feeling the breeze as I cross the water towards a rural road on a distant riverbank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/96225726@N08\/8868824847\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5467\/8868824847_93a1285043_b.jpg\" alt=\"Madeline Island Ferry. Photo by howderfamily.com; (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Madeline Island Ferry, Wisconsin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was with that in mind when I set out to create the definitive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howderfamily.com\/travel\/united_states_ferry_map.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interactive map of United States Ferries<\/a>. I have finally completed that task and I now make it publicly available for the first time. This was definitely a labor of love. It required extensive research on the names and specific locations of more than 200 ferries in the United States. In addition to the interactive map, it also includes links to the websites of just about every one of those ferries. Please do check it out and let me know what you think.
