I have visited Sprecher Brewing Co.,
in Glendale, Milwaukee County, California, USA.

Brewery/Brewpub Location Map

Reason for Visit: I've spent quite a bit of time in Wisconsin over the years. It's a great beer state. Sprecher is a little north of downtown Milwaukee, just off of Interstate 43 in Glendale.

Sprecher Brewing Co. Entrance Sign Entrance: This wonderful sight greets visitors as they approach the Sprecher Brewery for a tour. This well-maintained modern facility provides an inviting image from the moment one goes through the front door.
Sprecher Brewing Co. Brewing Tanks Brewing and Fermentation: Massive tanks fill the room where most of the action takes place. A 210 barrel fermenter rests at the center of this image, and a hot wort tank to its left. Notice also the Briess Malt banner adorning the hopper towards the upper-left. As typical of many breweries, one must be careful not to trip over the hoses that snake across concrete floors.
Sprecher Brewing Co. Warehouse Warehouse: Beer must be stored somewhere before going to distributors, and Sprecher is no exception. However there's a twist here. Your more likely to walk past pallets of soda than beer. Sprecher does a great soda business, and in fact they sell more root beer than all of their beer and other sodas combined. We learned that people often show up for the tour and are surprised to learn that Sprecher actually brews beer!
Sprecher Brewing Co. Beer Garten Hospitality Room: The tour concludes at this inviting beer garten. Each participant gets four beer tasting tickets and can drink all the soda they can stand. Nonetheless most of those taps are beer so one can get a comprehensive appreciation of the Sprecher brewing line. You can hang out for about an hour or so before they shoo you away.
Sprecher Brewing Co. Pint Glass Pint Glass: The Sprecher pint glass features their distinctive logo in the style of a coat of arms. The central image features a black griffin on a yellow shield. The brewery name tops the image horizontally, presented in a red Gothic script outlined in black. A pale yellow ribbon frames the bottom of the shield as it notes, "established in Milwaukee - 1985."
Sprecher Brewing Co. Growler Growler: Now this is a treat. Yes, it's pretty typically a growler, but it offers a great surprise. Only at the brewery, one can get a growler of their root beer, the fermented version of their root beer. I guess you'd have to call it a root beer beer. It's very distinctly a root beer but it does indeed have a kick. Thank goodness it's only 4% alcohol or it could really sneak up on someone. Anyway, this is the bottle this strange brew comes in, and you can't get it anywhere except here. That in itself should be sufficient justification to take the tour.
