I have visited McMenamins' Old St. Francis Brewpub,
in Bend, Deschutes Co., Oregon, USA.

Reason for Visit: We were visiting Bend, Oregon for eight nights and decided to visit every brewery and brewpub in town, eventually accomplishing every stop on the legendary Bend Ale Trail.

Exterior: Old Saint Francis is a typical McMenamins brewpub; in a word, eclectic. The property began as the Saint Francis School, a Catholic parochial school founded in 1936 as part of the St. Francis parish. The school continues to exist although it moved to a modern facility elsewhere in Bend. McMenamins purchased the property, appended "Old" to its name, and reopened it as a restaurant, brewery, movie house and hotel. |

Interior: The property included several bars. This one was called The Old St. Francis Pub. It was cozy and inviting, a nice place to get away from a rainy day for a little while. |

Sampler: We stopped long enough to enjoy a sampler, naturally. The placemat said, "WARNING: Please Do Not Read the Other Side." So I didn't. Actually I think they use this placemat in multiple locations because I've seen some of those beer names in other McMenamins locations. I don't know whether they use a standard recipe or allow each facility to create their own version under a common name. |
