I have visited Nodding Head Brewery,
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Brewery/Brewpub Location Map

Reason for Visit: We weren't even supposed to be in Philadelphia. We had a connecting flight that was scheduled only once per day and the the airline screwed it up. They paid for us to stay in a Philadelphia airport hotel until the next available flight the following morning. With 24 hours of unexpected delay, we hit the usual tourist spots like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Macy's so we could get some clean underwear because the airline still had our luggage, and then over to Nodding Head for most of the afternoon to console ourselves for the lost day that should have been spent in the Caribbean. It wasn't exactly an even trade but we made the most of it, and Nodding Head certainly helped.

Nodding Head Brewery in Philadelphia Exterior: Nodding Head isn't one of those flashy brewpubs that dominate a block, nor is it intended to be that way. It's tucked away on the second floor of a nondescript building, just another shop along Sansom Street in Philadelphia, a couple blocks away from City Hall. It's hard to imagine a brewbub exists here until you see the sign. Everything is incredibly low-key. The street level entrance is simply a narrow stairwell leading up from a lively pedestrian sidewalk to the floor above.
Nodding Head's Restaurant Interior: The decore is casual with lots of wood everywhere. Cases line the walls and they are completely filled with bobble-heads of every manner and form imaginable, and certainly accentuate the "nodding head" theme. It was a little quite at the time I took this photo because it was mid-afternoon; too late for lunch and too early for dinner. More of a crowd filled the room as the hours ticked away.
Nodding Head Bar Bar: We sat at the cozy bar. It is an interesting atmosphere, more like a comfortable neighborhood hangout than a typical brewpub. A jazz trio entertained patrons for a portion of the afternoon and after they were done folks seemed to be transfixed by a basketball game on the television. We had an enjoyable time chatting with some of the regulars before hopping in a cab back to the hotel, to re-start our interrupted vacation. All-in-all, and although we never planned or expected to be at Nodding Head that morning when we woke up and began our journey, we're glad we found it.
