I have visited New Glarus Brewing Company,
in New Glarus, Green County, Wisconsin, USA.

Brewery/Brewpub Location Map

Reason for Visit: We were touring around this southwestern corner of Wisconsin, and the picturesque town of New Glarus that features the culture and heritage of immigrants from Switzerland that first settled the area.

New Glarus Brewing Company Exterior Exterior: This was the exterior of the New Glarus Brewing Company in the summer of 2008 -- this is now known at their Riverside Brewery. Notice how the Swiss theme commonly found in this area carries through to the paint job on their building. It's clearly visible from the main road through town so it's a nice touch. A brand new brewery was under construction at the time on the south side of town. That one is now known as their Hilltop Brewery. No doubt I'll have to return and visit it. I think I can do that!
New Glarus Brewing Company Bottling Line Bottling Line: New Glarus handled tours a little differently at the Riverside Brewery than what I've seen at other breweries. It was self-guided and visitors carry around audio wands like in a museum; press a number and hear a pre-recorded message. Everything was clearly visible and you could dial-up as many or as few messages as you like. It's a little lacking in the personal touch but it seemed to work and they don't have to limit tours to once a week. Just show up and go. Here is a view of the portion of the facility where bottles whiz down a line to be filled and packaged.
New Glarus Brewing Company Tasting Room Tasting Room: The tasting room is just fine, and what you would expect. Copper brewing kettles can be seen through the back window and the list of available beers is sketched on a blackboard. Hmm... looks like Spotted Cow, Fat Squirrel, Wisconsin Belgian Red, [then something I'm not going to write because I don't want those kind of hits on my website but it starts with "Totally"], Hop Hearty and Edel Pils on the day we visited. Notice the plastic spotted cows on the windowsill. That's a common theme here (and in Wisconsin in general) and all kinds of cow-themed items are for sale in the gift shop.
New Glarus Brewing Company Sampler Glass Glassware: Here's the little sampler glass that comes with the tour. It's a nice momento to take home from the visit. The central image is a horsedrawn cart presumably hauling barrels of beer in a 19th Century agrarian scene.

I can't really tell what's in the back of the cart but it SHOULD be beer, right?

Items featured on these breweriana pages are personal souvenirs of my visits to these locations, and an expression of the events and travels leading to their collection. They are not for sale or for trade.
