I have visited the District ChopHouse in Washington, the District of Columbia, USA. I have also visited the Denver ChopHouse in the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado, USA.

Brewery/Brewpub Location Map

Reason for Visit: District Chophouse is half a block away from the Verizon Center, so it's a convenient place to stop before concerts or sporting events. The Denver Chophouse is a nice stop while visiting the city on business. It is part of the Rock Bottom chain but it feels quite a bit different.

District Chophouse & Brewery Coaster Front of Coaster: This District Chophouse & Brewery coaster is a simple circular two-color design on a white background. It features a red shield with the name of the brewery displayed across it in horizontal writing.

The Denver Chophouse has a similar logo except, as would be obvious, the name of the city is different.

Inside the District Chophouse District Chophouse Interior: You might think you'd stepped back in time into an old bank building when you arrive at the District Chophouse, and you wouldn't be far from the mark. The Chophouse repurposed the historic location of Washington's old Second National Bank. They retained much of the detailing such as the two-story columns and the ceilings constructed in an ancient Greek motif like many of the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century structures in the District. It gets even more interesting: there are elevators that lead to restrooms at the basement level, which once housed the bank's vaults. I can't say I've been in too many buildings that required an elevator ride to get to the restrooms.
Pint of Beer at the District Chophouse Enjoying a Pint: Ambiance aside, we were here for the beverages. They make some good ones here and I think my favorite is the Bourbon Stout which is exactly what appears in this photograph. The meals also come with a small cast-iron skillet of cornbread, which is another interesting twist. This is a perfect place to go before or after an event at the nearby Verizon Center, practically next door. On this occasion we'd just taken the kids to a matinee showing of the circus. You'd need a beer too after sitting in arena full of howling kids.
