I have visited Das Bierhaus,
in Menomonie, Dunn County, Wisconsin, USA.

Brewery/Brewpub Location Map

Reason for Visit: We were on our way across the state to begin a multi-day trip down Wisconsin's portion of the Great River Road, along its Mississippi River border with Minnesota and Iowa. The brewpub is located in a quiet area of Menomonie's historic downtown. It's an unassuming brick structure from the outside, and an inviting space on the inside. One might assume from the name of the establishment, Das Bierhaus, that it specializes in German-style beers, and that would be correct. In fact, one will find only German-style beers at Das Bierhaus.

Das Bierhaus Coaster and Logo Coaster: The Das Bierhaus coaster is the standard square shape with rounded corners. The majority of the design features appear on a centered shield, with a smaller shield at the top containing what looks like a copper brewing kettle (actually looks more like a still - something seems to be dripping from its spout) flanked by hop cones. The name of the brewpub appears in the foreground along a gentle arc, with the word Bierhause superimposed upon a wide ribbon. Framing text along the top reads, " Import the brewmaster, not the beer!" and along the bottom, "Downtown Menomonie, Wisconsin".
Das Bierhaus Exterior Exterior: Das Bierhaus sits at the corner of 6th Avenue and 2nd Street on the Western side of Menomonie (just a block off Broadway). The brewpub occupies a low-slung brick building festooned with a German flag and signs for German beers, for example Spaten as appears in this photograph. There is a parking lot immediately adjacent to the building but it seems to be reserved for county vehicles. No worries, there is plenty of street parking and a couple of quarters in the parking meter will last much longer than the time you'll actually need for a meal, a beer and a tour of the brewing equipment.
Das Bierhaus Brewing Plant Brewing Equipment: The proprietors of Das Bierhaus are more than happy to accommodate requests to view the brewing equipment providing the brewer isn't actively preparing a batch at the time. All was quiet during our visit so we got to see both the boiling side of the operation in the back of the building (this photo) as well as the chilled lagering room at the front of the building. It was a warm day so it was actually quite nice to walk into what was basically a giant refrigerator when we got to that part of the tour.
Das Bierhaus' Inviting Bar Bar: The interior is open and airy, and dominated by a large bar. I must admit I was a little skeptical when I looked at the image on Google Maps (above) before we arrived. However, that photo doesn't do the place justice so don't be deceived by the bad lighting and the dark image. It's a nice, albeit small place. We were there in the middle of the day so there weren't lots of other patrons around but it wasn't hard to imagine that a space like this would draw a cheerful crowd in the evenings.
