During his enlistment the unit served in the defences of Washington, DC, the Peninsula campaign, the siege of Yorktown, Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Bull Run, and then back to the defences of Washington where he left service. He then served Co. B, 30th Michigan Infantry (Union). Rank In = Private, Rank Out = Corporal. Film Number 545 roll 11. During his second enlistment the unit "Organized at Detroit, Mich., for 12 months' service in the State and mustered in January 9, 1865. Engaged in frontier duty in Michigan along the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers till June, 1865. Mustered out June 30, 1865."
