"Rites Held for Dr. HULL. Pioneer Carthage Physician Expires Sunday Morning. Dr. Charles Francis HULL, age 84, passed away at the family residence in this city at two o’clock a.m. on the morning of April 6. Funeral services were conducted from Hawthorne Funeral Home, on Monday afternoon at two-thirty p.m. with Rev. James JACKSON, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed the final rites in the city cemetery. The Odd Fellows serves as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers were: J. W. COOKE, Clyde WOODYARD, W. D. HEATON, and A. C. ATKINSON. Dr. HULL is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. M. B. SMITH, Grass Valley, California; and Mrs. Willis TILLER, Carthage. He is also survived by three grand-daughters and one grandson. The pioneer physician was a native of this county; he is also the last of the early members of a distinguished family that helped build this community. Dr. HULL received his medical degree from the Memphis College of Surgery, Memphis, Tennessee and started practicing medicine in Carthage in 1899. He was active in professional and civic circles here for years, and until just recently served the city as health officer. He was active in the Odd Fellows and was widely known in Texas medical circles. Dr. HULL was a lover of nature and appreciated the finer arts. The musical numbers offered by Mrs. Clyde WOODYARD and Mrs. Warren DURAN at the last rites for the physician were by his request. The deceased lived outside his native community only long enough to gain a medical education. He took pride in the fact that he was a native and fulfilled an ambition to come back among friends and neighbors after finishing college to practice. He was born in the Woods community. Dr. HULL was always an immaculately dressed man and his mannerisms and carriage was that of a Southern gentleman. He commanded respect and devotion from those he contacted and was a man of firm beliefs and sound convictions. He was a good man, a Christian, a civic leader and a professional man of note. His many friends will miss his influence in the community he lived in and served so well. Out-of-town people attending the rites for Dr. C. F. HULL included the following: Mrs. Grace HULL SMITH and daughter, Burma, Grass Valley, Calif.; Melvin MARGRAVES, Texas A+M College; Bob DEAN, Longview; Mrs. John HULL and Mrs. Preston ANDERSON, Ft. Worth; Mrs. Larry HUBBLE, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. J. M. SAMPLES, Mrs. Carl NELSON, and Janet NELSON of Texarkana; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. TERRY, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. MANLEY, Joseph ELLIS, Ted MATTHEWS, Mrs. Helen BOURLAND, Jan BOURLAND, and Mrs. Paul MATTHEWS, Greenville, Texas; Miss Beth TAGGART, Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. M. TOLERTOWN, Dallas; James Thomas BANKS, Nacogdoches; and Mrs. A. N. TILLER, Longview."
