The Dickerson Building, original home of the Walter P. Dickerson & Co. Fire Insurance Managers, was in danger of being demolished to make way for a new bus transit center. Through the efforts of East Row residents, the authorities struck a compromise and announced on January 10 that the Dickerson Building would be moved from 4th St. between York and Monmouth Sts., to 4th St. next to the Beckmeyer Building near Monmouth St. The Dickerson Building, described as "one of Newport's oldest," will also be renovated.
