- Moved to Wisconsin in 1855, after receiving encouraging accounts by mail from William SYLVESTER, the uncle of his future wife, Gertrude SYLVESTER (page 54).
- Taught school in Wisconsin upon arrival, in a log school house (page 54).
- Had his first date with Gertrude SYLVESTER in the Summer of 1856; they went to a circus in Mineral Point, WI, eighteen miles away (page 55)
- Was engaged to Gertrude SYLVESTER in the Winter of 1856/1857 with her parents blessing (page 55).
- Moved to Boscobel, Wisconsin, 25 miles away, where he lived from 1857-1861. He clerked in a hardware store and served as deputy postmaster to Perry KNOWLTON, husband of Gertrude's cousin Lucy (page 55).
- Enlisted in Co. K, 12th Wisconsin Infantry on September 4, 1861. The company had been formed by Gertrude SYLVESTER’s cousin, Captain Daniel SYLVESTER. Albert SAMPSON was made 2nd Sergeant and secretary to Capt. SYLVESTER (page 55).
- Married Gertrude SYLVESTER, September 23, 1861 (page 51).
- He drilled in Boscobel for a few weeks; Gertrude stayed with him (page 55).
- He then went with Co. K to Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin before heading off to war (page 56).
- The Winter of 1862 was difficult, and he was often riding on freight cars, and with little food (page 56).
- On January 13, 1862, he was along the Mississippi River, opposite Hannibal, Missouri, where it was bitter cold. (page 56).
- He was discharged from Co. K, 12th WI at Humboldt, Tennessee on September 15, 1862, for a promotion to 2nd Lieutenant on the recommendation of Capt. SYLVESTER (page 56).
- He traveled with Gertrude to Racine, Wisconsin to form Co. K., 33rd Reg., WI (page 56).
- Became 1st Lieutenant on October 6, 1862 when the person who was to have filled the position was killed in battle (page 56-57).
- Promoted to Captain, Co., K. 33rd WI, on June 3, 1863 (page 57).
- Was engaged in the Battle of Jackson Mississippi on July 14, 1863, the day his son Albert was born (page 66).
- Discharged August 9, 1865 and returned home (page 57).
- Lived in Boscobel, WI with his family the winter of 1865/1866 (page 57).
- Lived on Roseacre Farm 1866-1873 in Mifflin, WI, the property adjoining Gertrude's old home, Cloverdale. The family purchased the farm from Albert's earnings from his service in the army during the war (page 58).
- Moved to Platteville, WI in 1873, to be closer to the railroad and for access to better schools (page 58)
- He was in the marble business, but he sold his share after his son Irwin died (page 58).
- The family moved to Beloit, KS in September 1878, to get more land for their boys, but left after "five years of drought, hot winds and failure" (page 58).
- The family then moved to Eldorado Springs, MO in March 1884, their son Rosco having proceeded the family there. His son Bert had moved to Colorado (page 58-59).
- They grew apples and cherries in Eldorado Springs. Albert joined the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).
- In November 1887, he used his homestead rights from his army service to move to Texarkana, AR, arriving just before Christmas 1887. They lived four miles outside of town (page 60).
- Albert SAMPSON passed away on September 27, 1892 in Texarkana, AR (page 61).
