Notes

[NI0012] Updated April 28, 2004. Compiled by Howder (www.howderfamily.com) from the following source(s):

(1) 1870 United States Census for Tennessee, McNairy Co., 9th Civil District (Purdy Post Office): page 20; dwelling 119; family 119; August 25, 1870.

Sarah (Weaver) McGaughy is married to J. E. McGaughy, head of household. She was born in Alabama, is 35 years old and is keeping house. Children listed in the household are: James F., Elizabeth, William J., Mary A., John H., Samuel, Nancy J., Amanda C., and Washington.

(2) LDS FamilySearch 1880 United States Census database for Beat 1, Tishomingo Co., MS. Family History Library Film 1254666, NA Film Number T9-0666, Page 37A.

Sarah (Weaver) McGaughy is listed as 44 years old, born in Alabama (which contradicts other records), and is the wife of John McGaughy. She is "keeping house." The birthplace of both parents is also designated as Alabama. The children listed in the household are: John Henry; Samuel; Caroline; Washington; Porter; and Eliza. The record designates her middle initial as "A" which is in error.

(3) Family document: Buried at Little Flock Cemetery on the grounds of a Primitive Baptist Church; graves marked by large native stones - no markings.
