He was born in Alabama, is 50 years old and is a farmer with personal
estate valued at $500. He is eligible to vote. Children listed in the
household are: James F., Elizabeth, William J., Mary A., John H.,
Samuel, Nancy J., Amanda C., and Washington.

John E. McGaughy is listed as 54 years old, born in Alabama, and is
married to Sarah McGaughy. He has no occupation provided although
several children are listed as "works on farm." No information is
provided about his parents' birthplace either. He is head of household,
married to Sarah McGaughy. The children listed in the household are:
John Henry; Samuel; Caroline; Washington; Porter; and Eliza. The record
designates his middle initial as "A" which is in error.
(3) From a family document of unknown origin, he "was a Methodist
preacher (circuit rider). He farmed during the week and preached in the
neighboring communities on Sunday; he rode a white horse to and from the
churches at which he preached. He lived on a farm near Iuka and
Burnsville, Mississippi." [Northeast corner of MS, Tishomingo Co.]
(4) Another family document: Buried at Little Flock Cemetery on the
grounds of a Primitive Baptist Church; graves marked by large native
stones - no markings.
