During his enlistment the unit served in New Orleans, the assault on Port Hudson, action at Donaldsonville, then to Baton Rouge and Cairo, Illinois, before returning to Maine and mustering out. He then served in Co. F, 2nd Maine Cavalry (Union). Rank In = Lieutenant, Rank Out = Lieutenant. Film Number M543 roll 16. He returned with this unit to New Orleans and spent the remainder of the war in Louisiana and Alabama, including the capture of Fort Blakely and occupation of Mobile, Alabama.
