Sarah Plant is the son of Moses and Eliza [Naiden] Plant. He is 13 years old and born in Canada - West. (2) "Portrait Biographical Album of Ionia and Montcalm Counties, Mich." Chicago: Chapman Bros., 1891, pages 432 -435. Portrait of Elias Gates. In the section of the sketch which discusses Julia [Plant] Gate's parents and siblings, mentions her brother Samuel: "... Samuel, lost his life at Savannah, Ga., while serving in the Union army." NOTE: The unit participated in the Siege of Savannah in December 1864. During his enlistment the unit participated in engineering duties, hospital building, garrison duty, along with the pursuit of Forest, the March to the Sea and finally the Siege of Savannah where Samuel Plant passed away.
