Updated December 12, 2014. Compiled by Howder (www.howderfamily.com) from the following source(s):

(1) 1850 United States Census for Tennessee, Fayette Co., Civil District No. 13: December 5, 1850.

Ella HUNT is the daughter of Douglas HUNT (age 28, a farmer born in Virginia) and Mary HUNT (maiden surname unknown, age 25, born in South Carolina). Ella is 4 years old and born in Tennessee. Her sister is Lillian HUNT.

(2) 1860 United States Census for Tennessee, Fayette Co., Civil District No. 13: Page 200; August 30, 1860.

Ella HUNT is the daughter of Douglass HUNT (age 38, a farmer with real estate valued at $25,000 and personal estate valued at $59,000, born in Tennessee) and Mary HUNT (age 34, born in Tennessee). Ella is 13 years old and born in Tennessee. Her siblings are John, Douglass, Effie and Walter. Take note of her father's wealth which is exceptionally high for this period in time: there are other records that indicate an individual named Douglass HUNT in this same county was a large plantation owner with approximately 80 slaves. Since this was just prior to the Civil War, it may explain how Ella might have ended up in Texas ten years later.
